Announcement It is with great sadness that the elders of Sutton Coldfield United Reformed Church confirm the death at the end of November of their minister, The Reverend Ann Sheldon. Ann had been suffering from cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. It was thought she had been responding to treatment.
It was subsequently confirmed that Revd Ann died from a heart attack, which was instant, so she would not have suffered. Revd Ann’s funeral service was held on Wednesday 16 December at 1.30 PM at Beulah United Reformed Church, Beulah Road, Rhiwbina, Cardiff. CF14 6LT. Ann’s family (parents and aunt) have requested donations in lieu of flowers to be made to Christian Aid. These may be given directly to Christian Aid at PO Box 100, London SE1 7RT or online via their website HYPERLINK "http://www.christianaid.org.uk" www.christianaid.org.uk or sent to the funeral directors: D.Caesar Jones, Funeral Directors, 55 Pant Bach Rd, Rhiwbina. Cardiff. CF14 1TW. A Thanksgiving Service for Revd Ann’s life will be held at Sutton Coldfield United Reformed Church on Saturday 23rd January 2010 at 2pm. If you wish to attend would you kindly contact the church via office@suttonurc.org.uk or 0121 355 1217 to help with making arrangements. Since parking on a Saturday in the town centre may be difficult it is suggested that car-sharing or use of public transport be used whenever possible. The church is within a few minutes walk from the railway station.

Fund Raising A Church Project takes place each year which aims to channel some of the energy and talent of the Church fellowship in an outward direction to help people having no connection with our church. Substantial sums of money are raised through various events and the opportunity taken to get a better understanding of a particular need. The current project 2008/9 is for CROSS-Church Refurbishment Our Statement for Service. Many events have been and will be held, to raise funds towards our aim of being a centre for our local community The project for 2007/2008 was Acorns Hospice Walsall for which we have raised £2292. The previous project for 2006/2007 was Crossroads-Teen Challenge Serbia, mainly to raise funds to provide greenhouses for a project at a drug rehab centre. £3751. was raised. 2004/5 and 2005/6 support was given to the Masoyi Home Based Care Project in Africa, for children affected by HIV/Aids.

Development Following the decision in February 2006 to reject the offer from The Mall to purchase the Church site, plans, already prepared were revised and in 2007, planning permission was being sort. The intention is to create a 'God-Centred Oasis' in the midst of the shopping centre, to create a place which offers refreshment and welcome for all those using the building and passing traffic to and from the Mall. This vision, developed over a number of years, recognises the changing nature of church in the twenty first century, yet acknowledging the spiritual needs of the wider society. Planning permission was granted in the middle of 2008, costings etc. are awaited before a final decision is made for the work to begin.
